In the 1943 campaigns, especially the American one, lower ranks jump over me (Captain) to lead the squadron - I might lead a flight at the most. In the German campaign, I am an Oberleutnant, even after 18 missions - that's okay but the Stabsfeldwebel with one sortie is promoted to Hauptmann and leads the squadron. Must I start a campaign as a Colonel or Oberst in order to lead the squadron?

Hmmm, curious! Very curious. Did you talk about updating your computer while in the same room. Did you look at offers for better processors on the Internet? Did you talk loudly about playing other games beyond EAW ???

This seems to me a typical case of computer posession. I think the only way to get around this is to stand in front of your Monitor and declare loudly:

There is no other game but EAW and I am perfectly happy to play it on a "MODELL OF YOUR PROCESSOR".

Perhaps your computer will be forgiving then.

OK, in ernest. I always started low (I like being promoted) and promotions always led to a leading slot. I even commanded wingman with a higher rank than me. But I always had the higher scoring board. Perhaps EAW chooses the member of the flight with the most kills as flight leader.

Yours

Thanks for the info. I will never forsake EAW and will devote my new computer to it. As to sorties and kills, I had 15 sorties and 19 kills, the Stabsfeldwebel leading the squadron had 2 sorties and 1 kill. One positive point is my wingmen have not shot me down yet. How long did it take you to be promoted from Oberleutnant?

I did not count it, but it was not that long, below 10 missions. In fact I was always leading either flights or, as soon as I was captain or an equivalent rank in any other service, I was the squadron leader, even if there were NPCs with a higher rank. So your problem is REALLY curious.

I know this is an issue when recieving medals.

If you don't play the game at maximum realism (Invulnarbility and unlimited ammo is a big nono + maybe some of the others) you simly don't get medals. I would think it is the same with promotions.

Thanks for the info. I do have Full Realism on for Flight, in Combat, the enemy skill level is veteran. Medals are awarded. I have not reached the point where I never have to use REFLY but I doubt if that has anything to do with my squadron hating me. I am using EAW 1.2 and the ECA 3.0. It does bother me when the squadron leader tells the squadron, "Let's get them, boys!" and they go charging off in the P47c against 20+ FW 190's - it seems the FW 190's are more maneuvrable than the P 47's and eat them for breakfast.

Those 190s are more maneuverable than the jug, but with a little B&Z, god help those 190s if they get in front of those eight Brownings...Ma Deuce ruins their whole day...

jimjim,

Get used to it! The same thing happens to me in British 1943 campaigns!

Thanks JWC. I was worried I was doing something wrong but now that I know somebody else is having the same difficulty, I will endure the humiliation. Yesterday 2nd Lieutenant Harley Goodson, with only 4 sorties under his belt, was promoted to Major and took over the squadron. I think it must have been nepotism!
