S! all,

fun? frightening? weird? nuts?

Some time ago I found this incredible advertisement on some german news site. I don't remember exactly in which country the campaign was published but I believe it was in Korea.

German heating company DBK did not know about this campaign - they said.

Anyone out there who can tell us what the advertisement says?

Hell of a "risque" I vould think?

But to be taken with a pinch of salt, and with a bit of humour!

Probably says something along the lines of "I vill heat up your vorld!"

Hehehehe.

I think the issue is that the Asian's did'nt find the Nazis quite as offensive as we did.

Possible- they got the "short end of the stick" as well in that part of the world, and vould probably be more "sympathetic" to this type of add-

It is about as sensless as our NANDO's one- Tobiwan?

The reaction to this type of add depends on the background of the target audience- some will find it very offensive, others will not- who's to say who is right?

MOk:
Thx for info!

hmmm, maybe it was Hongkong (or was it Taiwan?) - phhh I don't remember!

Tobiwan:
I think you are right. Many asian countries don't find Hitler and his nazi-ideology as offensive as we do!

Herr Rommel:
Ich go viz your opinion!
But vor dscherman audience zis ist quite schokking - even if taken with humour!

It probably says, "Heil Heater!" In winter, that's a common sentiment.

The ad is from Singepore. Most asians are very aware of what the Japanese did to other asians, but know very little about what the Germans did to other europeans. They are frequently shocked and horrified when they are informed as to the truth. It is likely that the ad's creator didn't even think it would cause any pain or emotionaly negative responses. It would seem like using FDR or Churchill to him/her. Both the Israeli and German consulates protested and the ads were quickly canceled. There was recently reported in the US a bar named the Third Reich in South Korea. The owner was unaware of its connotations and had just used it as an interesting historical backdrop. The Israeli and German consullates protested to the S. Korean gov. and they requested the owner to change the theme.

When in japan I met a guy that had been a boxer. He was deaf (but could read lips) anyway he taught me a few things in Japanese sign language. A friends Dad is German so she asked what the sign for German was. He put his middle & index fingers together & placed them on under his nose likes Hitler's moustache! It was hilarious at the time, but we had to explain that a lot of people might be pretty offended. There is another newer sign for German but this guy didn't know it & I can't remember it.
Britain was signed by drawing the fingers across the chin like the strap on the old bobys hats & the guards at Buckinham palace.
Australia ya make a little rabbits head & hop it across your field of view like a kangaroo. They were awfully funny & simple & logical really.
As for a lot of asian not knowing much about the nazi's---have ya seen some of the people Jay Leno finds in the states? A couple of girls last night didn't know if Canada had a government or not! It's surprising what people dont know!

Ignorance is bliss.

Canada has a government; we just don't take it very seriously. Our Prime Minister is incomprehensable in both official languages.
