Ok, I did a fresh install of F4, patched it with 1.08, no errors in installation.

Loaded up instant action, saw the problem with text being unreadable. Went to Delphi message boards, went here, saw link to the 1.08 FAQ, read it, found fix for the text problem. It doesn't work for me, though. I tried setting the textel alignment thingy both to 0 and 7, neither one worked. I rebooted each time I changed the setting. My machine specs: P2 450, 128 Ram, TNT card, 2.08 Detonator drivers, A3d card. I don't want to upgrade to 3.53 drivers because I have Direct X 7 installed, and I have heard the 3.53 drivers have problems with DX 7. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, that was the FAQ I read before. That fix didn't work for me for some reason. I just tried going down to 800 x 600, but the text is still unreadable. If other people have this problem (and the textel alignment fix doesn't work for them either) you are going to see a lot of unhappy people posting when they get home from work tonight

Ok, I got it to work by installing the 3.53 version of the detonator drivers. Prior to this I was using the 2.08 version and the textel alignment fix did nothing. After updating the drivers to 3.53, it worked. YESSSSSS!!!!!

Hmmm....3.53 drivers did you say?

I have heard the 3.53 drivers together with other games, for ex HalfLife. Actually, I have tried it myself..it is acting strange after the installation from 2.08 to 3.53. Not a Falcon question..but do u have a solution / setting for getting H-L work better with 3.53 with a TNT1-card?

Regards,

If after setting the texel alignment to 0 doesn't sovle the font problems, set mipmap levels to 0, because that might be compounding the problem.

If it's set to anything besides 0 or 1, fonts will be garbled, and if you set it too high, EVERYTHING looks bad.

Just so everyone knows you can use the 2.17 drivers as well. I've heard that some people don't like the 3.53 ones so maybe the 2.17 ones will work better for them.

I am also having a text problem. I have read the IBeta FAQ and unfortunately, there is no "Texel Alignment Slider" available for my craphics chipset which is ATI RAGE Mobility.

Although I purchased F4 a few months ago, I never installed it as I read too many horror stories about its bugginess and I was having too much fun with F22 ADF. I just installed it last week after getting the 1.08 patch and it seems to work fine. Frame rate is great at 1024x768 but regardless of resolution, I cannot read the fonts. The right side of each character is missing. If anyone else has had this problem with ATI please let me know if there is a fix.

Configuration is as follows:

Dell Inspiron 7000
450 Mhz Pentium II
384 Meg Ram
ATI RAGE Mobility AGP 2x 8Mb
18 GB Drive
Win98 SE

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me. I really want to fix this as I have been a faithful Falcon user since V1, I even still have it on my shelf. Anyway, if I can't get this resolved, I will have to box it up and get F22 TAW instead.

Personnaly I prefer the .48 Nvidia reference drivers for my TNT card. I see a much better framerate than with the 3.53 detonator drivers. For more information see the .48 TNT drivers thread.

Good Hunting
