Hi, all!Hypothetical poll: Would you subscribe to the Falcon flight sim series? You will get the core sim engine, and you will be entitled to all new aircrafts, ground war, and evolutionary add-ons provided by the developer. You will also get a regular newsletter about the developments and future visions of the sim, plus missions, flying tips, the best of the best collected from the Falcon community. Which product edition would you go for? A. Falcon Light ($30) - simplified version, no subscription. B. Falcon Standard ($40) - current version, no subscription. C. Falcon Elite ($60) - extended version, with subscription. D. None. Note: The price of Falcon Elite is calculated as follows: $40 product + $20 subscription a year. Please reply in a single posting (stating option by letter, and adding any comments as you wish). I encourage all readers, even readers that usually do not reply to these threads, to press the reply button at the bottom of this page. Its easy! Rationale for this poll: Check the Falcon Subscription Rationale thread. [This message has been edited by Attila (edited 12-05-1999).]

I would support Option C if it was provided for...the required assumption is that the concept doesnt get "mined out", or that upgrades arent dripped out just fast enough to maintain subscriptions...if I was MP I would have to ask if I would get better revenue stream with a 2 part tarriff or with the existing scheme of selling major extensions with the existing up front price...it would be interesting to know what % of F4 flyers will buy F15...i assume your C scenario would have F15 as part of the add-ons provided...

Hi Splash1, thanks for voting.Yes, I envisage a subscription model that enables evolutionary development, longevity of products and continous service (not years of waiting). Todays marketing are too focused on "titles". Take F15 for example, it is a new stand-alone product, isn't it? Will it have features that you never will get while flying your Falcon? Probably. I envisage a sim core, with airplane and feature add-ons --- one product continously evolving. Not a multitude of titles based on the same core, incompatible, and with several installs, patches and mess. But thats hard to avoid today, and is enforced by current game marketing. The money is simply not there. More comments over at Falcon Subscription Rationale --- jump over and comment... [This message has been edited by Attila (edited 12-05-1999).]

No I would have to disagree. At current pricing I would be just as well off to pay $40 for the sim (I've had it one year), then wait another year from now and shell out another $40 for the addon. Why take the risk that the software developer is going to bail on you? What if the addon is delayed or cancelled altogether? Then you end up paying even more. The concept of standard and pro versions of software also doesn't sit well with me. Besides wasting the developer even more money on developing and supporting multiple products we all just end up paying more money for the pro version. ------------------ 2nd Lt. von Krarr 16th ACCW Flying Tigers 163rd Mad Boomers

I'd go for option C. And I'd pay 2 or 3 times that.

i agree wholeheartedly with Von Karr.Do you wanna try collecting onyour lost bet when a developer still goes belly up and doesn't offer any new upgrades/products for the sim subscription you purchased? didn't think so.. supporting multiple versions can get a bit much i think...even for the consumer with only one version (ok i have ef2kgfx version, not superef2k, so which patch do i i need? wha?!?!?!?,

The answer is C.With all due respect to those with VALID concerns. I'd take a chance on the F4 team. With the promise of the introduction of new theaters/campaigns (i.e. newsreels etc.) continuing AI improvements, etc. the potential gains are worth the risk. IMHO. VANDAL
