Hi all

I post a question regarding the raedme file for the upcoming patch...
The list of repairs and fixes is so small !!
And I find it amazing that after 3 months of working that's what they came up with , the main issues still remain ...
I don't see anything telling that the crowded skies have been patched or anything about resupplies....
And then they try to outsmart us by posting "previous fixes" and listing all the 1.07 fixes ...
If you check the ammount of space the 1.08 fixes took from the entire readme file you will laugh...
I believe this is the final readme because you can read it right next to the official 1.08 release date (6/12/99) on the falcon4 web site.
I think that first you should fix the sim (AI and campaign) and then when it rocks you can address graphics and 1024X768 resolutions to keep it with the same same class as newer sims ...
One more thing , I read in another web site that graphics have been improved in the patch (like better looking flares) but amazingly those details have missed the readme file ...
Maybe they want us to see for ourselves, I don't know ...
All I can say is that I truly hope that the patch has more than the readme says ...
Only because I'm afraid that this patch is the last one... but that's for another time ...

Comments are welcome ...

Good luck and good hunting ...

i was about to post a topic regarding this too, the total amount of 1.08's changes in the whole document is pretty funny .. it looks more or less like contents for the rest of the whole document, but look at the file size 18mb , man f4 patches are pregnant or what everytime they grow huge anyways i think so that we are going to see some nice changes because of the time and effort put into this patch ..

only word till now in my mind about all this hype going on is "FISHY" yup there is something which just doesnt fits in the puzzle

There seems to be some confusion over the size of the 108 patch and why its so big.

If you consider that the 108 patch actually contains the previous patches up to 1.07, and that there is now included a hires 2d cockpit, 108 actually doesn't seem that large anymore.

The patches up to 107 did not include any major art upgrades. Correct me if I'm wrong on this one (as I'm sure someone will).

What would Hasbroprose commit in terms of resources for the patch. Probably not much. I'll bet F15 will be a mother of a program, and will solve some major issues just because of the commitment of resources to that project. In other words:
patching the product = no direct increased revenue = no human resource comitment.

In all the prevous patches, there were a LOT of bug-fixes and enhancements/design changes that were not documented. It will be the same here, but alas the major ones would normally be mentioned in the readme. I expect it is the same her.

Alex.

MDV correct me if i am wrong here but F15 is going to be an ADDON , which means that it is supposed to work WITH falcon4 , its not the other way around so my point is that in order to make f15 work they WOULD have to make falcon4 perfect first ( hope so ) F15 would also be an stand alone program ( correct me if i am wrong ) so mother yet would still be falcon4 with f15 as new and improved generation

Falcon3 did start working properly with the MiG29 addon, that was a big patch within a new addon. Before the game was also full of bugs : one day, i ejected while waiting on the runway of Panama AFB to test the zero-zero seat, and, to my big surprise, was listed MIA !!! on my own runway !! So take it easy guys .... history tends to repeat itself ;-)

Back on the subject of patch size. I think the largest portion of the patch is the new cockpit. Yes, this patch does contain all of the previous patches. But it doesn't individually apply all the patches. Say they patched file myfile.dat in 1.04. Then they found something else wrong for 1.08. They would include that file twice. Just include it once, with BOTH sets of changes applied. The new cockpit art is probably adding many new files. Just a thought.
