I was in the middle of a hairy mission, on the tail of a Mig-29. I fired a long cannon burst and watched him burst into flames. I pulled up and saw the Mig-29 pilot ejecting. I started to swerve but suddenly I heard "AAAAAAAAHHHHH"!!!!!! and a bang! Avionics out, HUD out, my F-16 jerking all over the place. I busted out laughing at the sound of the scream, though! It sounded really hilarious. I had heard it before but never knew what that scream was for. Now I know! It happens when a pilot in a 'chute gets rammed! There's always something new, and usually funny, waiting to happen in F4.

Saw something else that should give us hope - a large billboard with "Falcon 5.0" written on it, on top of one of the buildings that I flew past during that same mission. No kidding!

BTW, I tried to land the damaged bird and almost succeeded but the shaky plane betrayed me and I died in nice firery runway crash.

BTW, consider this a continuation of the "Share your funny F4 stories thread" which unfortunately got contaminated with Flanker2 related flaming. It was a good thread though so I didn't want to see it die.

Any amusing or weird stories you have, share them here, please.

The scream you hear from the MiG pilot is NOTHING compared to what you will hear when your chief mechanic finds all that silk clogging up the air intake!!

Anyway, some people here wanted to fly the two-seater version of the F-16. With F4, they now have a chance. Pity the second crewman is an enemy and is sitting in pieces on the wing. Oh well, who said F4 was pefect!

Alex.

LOL!

If you're sitting in the campaign screen, or flying a mission, and you suddenly hear "AAAAAHHHHH!" over the radio, now you'll know what happened.

The MPS guys have really got a sense of humor. I can also tell they're Star Wars fans. Ever heard these calls over the radio:

"Just like beggar's canyon back home".
"NOooooo!" (from the movie when Obi gets chopped down)

These guys are too much. I love it!

Heheh, now thats funny!

I havent had this happen to me- but I DO admit to shooting at some of the ejected enemy pilots.

Especially those nasty su25 pilots that just dropped a few bombs on my boys in the dirt.

Hi mbaxter...

Since you had to type your, "F2 contaminating the other thread" post on this thread, I went over and had a good read and saw this...

mbaxter wrote:

"One guy(Stinger) even threatened to try and get me fired from my job when he found out what company I work for. I've seen some heated stuff on message boards but that's a new one for me - Jeez!"

If you are so insecure as to think I was serious(remember what these are for ";-)" about threatening your job, then you need to sit back, crack a cold beer, put your feet up, and rethink your reason for being on these forums if your ego can be damaged so easily.

Anyway...back to the screaming F4 pilots...I howled the first time I ingested one of them too!

Oh ya, your comment that real pilots have to deal with this stuff(runway incursions)...

If a pilot ever did taxi out in front of an approaching aircraft, he'd be fined, lose his license, and his career. It doesn't happen in the real world, just in F4's. I hope that is fixed up in 1.08.

Unfortunately , Stinger,
Runway incursions DO still happen in the real world.

Hey where is that comment anyways?

Falcon1...

I'd be interested if you pointed me to some statistics proving your point, as well, I'm referring to incursions by other aircraft at major centers/military bases, not hick airports and also recently, not years ago.

Thanks.

Comment is in the "funny stories" thread here on the F4 forum.

Stinger goto www.FAA.com.

no wait got www.ntsb.com not sure if thats the url but goto the NTSB and look at the stats page you will see that and more.. Heck just ask any controller and man you will turn white in the face (if you are white skined) and a lighter shade of brown if you are (Dark Skined)

The point is that that stuff happens alot but again to explain whats going on in Falcon all you have to do is push up to the tower freq.

you will find just like in real life its HUMAN pilot error. ANd not the game.

Good luck

No problem Stinger,

Aviation Week (Aug 2 99), page 24.

FAA 'Slow' To Address Runway Incursion Issue.

Last year there were 325 runway incursions- 183 of them due to "Pilot deviations",51 due to "Vehicle/Pedestrian Deviations", and 91 due to "Operational Errors".

And they have been rising every year from 1993 to 1998. 1999's goal is 248 total.

According to the DOT's Inspector General.

Thanks for the info Falcon1 and Bones!

Damn!! I think I'll just stay up here and fly in the safe Canadian skies! :-)

I would figure that in a controlled environment such as major/military airports that the majority of incursions would be due to ATC errors, low vis, and ground personel.

Everytime before we even taxi across another taxiway let alone move into position for take off, we both do the, "clear right...clear left" calls.

Hey,hey,

I'm sure you "hosers" have your shares of incursions as well.

What exactly is a "hoser" anyways?

FalconF1...

Hehehe...I'm sure we do, but being a 600+ hour pilot in my first job, I have a lot to see still. I'll look it up on our TSB website.

A "hoser" is coined from Bob and Doug MacKenzie(it's what they call themselves) of SCTV fame..."Great White North". Also, if you have not seen "Strange Brew" go to your video store and rent it...it's a classic! :-)

I actually have about 350 hours on a Pilatus PC-12..check out my website(real Flying page) for info and pics...

On Monday, I start groundschool on the Swearingen Merlin SW2A twin turboprop that I'll be getting checked out on. It's a cross between a King Air and a Metroliner...very unique.

We also have a King Air 200 that I'll most likely be flying early next year, or maybe our Lear 35A. :-)

The PC-12 is an amazing machine...

1600 shaft horsepower derated to 1200shp at takeoff, we cruise with passengers at 24 and 25,000 feet, and without we go up to 29,000 feet at 260 kts and upwards. I have seen groundspeeds as high as 340 kts = about 395 mph. Endurance is upwards of 7 hours easy and we are always landing on 3-4000 foot gravel runways up in the arctic with crosswinds of 40 kts sometimes 90 deg off the runway.

It's a damn impressive machine for only having one prop!

Also note the dual EFIS cockpit we have! :-)

Oh ya...they aren't cheap...about 2.5 million US!

Bones - "pilot error" is right. That time I ran into an F-15 taking off was no doubt my fault. I'm sure I was using the wrong runway. I usually don't have the patience to let ATC talk me in, I just find the base and eyeball my way in and ignore their vectors, then land on any runway that's convenient. Usually my carelessness doesn't matter unless I have the bad luck of running into a flight taking off!

Hell, I dont even fly all the way back to the base anymore!

I tell my wingmen to return to base, and thats it. End mission.
There are too any things going on in the campaign , so its a waste of time for me to fly back to base.

Manual says that if you don't land, you don't get credit for mission. Is that untrue?

Yikes I hope not!

My logbook shows lots of kills (ground and air). And I finally got promoted to 1stLt. when I won the campaign.

If you don t land, you get less "points", that means fewer medals, or just an Air Medal where it could have been an Air Force Cross for example.
