Just woke up after playing multiplayer all day yesterday for 24 hours. I posted another topic about that, we'll probably be playing again tonight on the T1. Anyway, there was this one mission we were on SEAD taking out some enemy SAMs by a enemy FARP. A frontline unit was down a road toward our position. In order to get close to us they'd have to cross a bridge, so we destroied the bridge then went back to the SAMs. After we took out the SAMs we headed back home, and to our suprise started getting shot at as we turned back. Somehow that enemy frontline crossed the bridge even though we destroied it. So how did they do that?

Yep get 1.4.5x this is fixed and they wont do that.
When u kill a bridge the units will stop and wait for a repair flight that will fix the bridge. The Repair flight will be genrated and tasked to the bridge.
This can take upto 1hour depending where the flight has to come from. Usualy it will be CH53 helos.

shouldnt happen then are u sure it the same sam , no other crossing nearby, bridge wasnt repaired.
if it did happen it must off been a glitch as i spent about 2 hours on this one and concluded it worked properly.

The only instance i could get Units to cross destroyed bridges was in Campaign saves from pre 1.4.2x i.e 1.41c. If a bridge was destroyed in a 1.41c save (even when played with a 1.4.2x+ patch ) then a flag would not be set to say it destroyed so for intents and purposes for that bridge in that save it would exhibit this weird behaviour.

Any bridges destroyed with 1.42x patch installation would work properly.

As campaign saves from 1.4.1c ( Us defaullt version ) are playble with the X patches this might be the reason, so any bridges destroyed while using 1.4.1c will be affected.
This only a very small glitch as if you start a fresh game under 1.4.5x patch then every bridge will work properly when destroyed.

It could be possible that it was just repaired quickly. I'm sure it was the same unit, that was the only road, and the only other way was to come from allied territory which there weren't any enemy units. We were in the area for a pretty long time, it could be possible that a repair flight repaired it in that time.

How are the bridges repaired? What I am trying to find out is what vehicle(s) repair them or are they just understood to be repaired over time. If there is a repair vehicle, it would be good to know which one so it could be targeted in such an instance.

Anyone know for sure?

the Repair vehicle is a Helicopter usually a Ch53. On destuction of a Bridge where your units have to cross it will be tasked from the nearest base to the bridge containing such Helos.
It will fly to the bridge on a REPAIR mission and hover over the Bridge , pity you dont see engineers drop down and repair it. The actual repair process is quite quick.

Stalled forces on the other side will not resume straight away across the repaired bridge but usually wait for about 15 minutes.
So it is possible to Target Repair Flights and Even further Delay the repair of destoryed bridges.
