does anyone know how to get FSAA in any form to run when EECH is in 32bit rendering mode on a GeForce2 GTS 32mb? 16 bit mode, FSAA works 100% but there is a horrible colour banding in the sky and the ground textures look blotchy and ugly.....32bit mode surely would fix this....IF ONLY IT WORKS!!!!!. I'm using dx7a with the latest 6.18 drivers, but i've also tried 5.22, 5.30, 5.32, 6.09 and 6.16.......i've tried all the modes on the FSAA slider and enabling/disabling force FSAA aswell...no joy. Can someone enlighten me on what i'm supposed to do to get it working?

Athlon 800
Epox 7kxa
Creative GF2 GTS 32mb
Nvidia 6.18 drivers
DX7a
Win98SE
etc, etc...........

You cannot. There is not enough memory and bandwidth.

You can only run 640x480 with 32-bit color and FSAA on the lowest setting unless you have a 64 Meg card, then you can go up to the second lowest FSAA setting.

fair enough....that explains it. Ah well, 32bit at 1024x768 doesn't look that bad without FSAA anyway

Eh?
Surely I get EECH to work at 1024x768 in 32bit with 2xFSAA on my Hercules Geforce 256ddr/dvi (and it only has 32mb ram).
You should use Flexman's Ground control utility at: http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/combat_helo/utilities/index.shtml
This is a custom made launcher which, amongst many other things, allows you to switch to 32bit rendering.

And get the 1.4.5x patch from http://www.enemyengaged.com if you don't have it already.

Cheers

Mispunt:

Sure you can set the slider, but look at the image quality and benchmarks, That's the proof.

I'm in video card engineer, so I know a little it about this.

That would explain why my gameplay with 32 bit rendering yieled such low fps. Now I know.

after experimenting, FSAA only kicks in up to 800x600x32 in EECH, above that at 1024x768 the blurryness (you can see it the most on the text at the bottom, as in outside view)goes away and the jaggies really stand out......so i'll go with the lack of memory problem. c'est la vie, still a blinding looking game though

Jpinard:

I didn't know about the bandwith problem.

But: FSAA works on 1024x 768 at 32 bits.
except not as good as it should when you compare it to 1024x768 at 16 bits.

At 32 bits it only preforms about 50% of AA per pixel, I find it difficult to explain without showing pictures so here's a textual/visual approach:
Assume that "5" is the foreground color (black) and "0" the background color (white).
A normal color blend sequence between these pixels is then 4-3-2-1. On my system FSAA4x at 32 bits generates only the first few steps: 4-3.

So it might not be as good as it should, the jaggies are softened up a bit and that shows quite clearly.

Cheers
