I ran one of the skirmishes and at my engagement point I got a 'Low Light' reading from the bad weather on both the ground and air radar. I thought the weather only had an effect on cameras?

I could lock up and fire on the Vulcans but when an enemy chopper flight came near I couldn't get them on air radar. Were they Comanches in 'Stealth Mode' or was this most likely the result of the low light. And if this was a 'Low Light' problem how do I work around it? I obviously can't go to FLIR or TV, what do I do? I chased them and fired with cannons, manually aiming, but they ignored me and went to the FARP I was reconning. Strange?

Hi holbrop,

You are correct that weather only affects visual sensors like FLIR or DTV, but don't forget that your CPG's eyeballs are also under this category. Thus, while your radar may find targets, your co-pilot/gunner does not have the visibility to identify them. Thus, you will get "Low Light" instead of the target's name.

About the Comanches, they may very well have been in stealth mode. If you could not see stub wings on them, then their RCS is probably too low for the Hokum's radar to detect.

Hope that helps,
Sir Cumference

Thanks Sir. I seem to forget about my co-pilot having to ID targets with the camera.

I don't know if the Comanchees had their stubs on or not, probably not. I got to almost gun range on them and still no radar sig. I wonder if rotor-wing stealth technology is that good in the real world?

No problem, Phil. Glad to help. The way stealth is modeled in EECH is described in Flexman's strategy guide on the game CD. The sim uses a percent multiplier on detection range depending on the various configurations of the Comanche. I think the stealthiest it can be (gear up, weapons stowed, no stub wings) is fifteen percent. So a Hokum will only be able to detect a full-stealth Comanche at fifteen percent of its maximum air radar range.

Cool chart Ozias, but what is that next to the Kiowa in the radar section? Is that a mushroom? Psychadelic.

Cheers,
Sir C
