Has anybody seen the article in last week's MCV magazine (games trade journal) that says Digital Integration's Managing Director, Rod Swift has left to set up an internet games company called Gamesforce? I think this will mean two things:

1/ DI is dead. As far as I understand, Rod Swift was the key programmer at DI and was the sole survivor of the golden era of DI's flight sims. The other team members (including Rob Marshall, the other MD) left when Titus took-over DI.

2/ Hopefully we'll see some kick-ass internet flight sims from Rod Swift's new company which is apparently called 'Gamesforce.'

Well, none of the guys you named were involved in the actual development of Tornado, so I guess they could live without them but heck, it doesn't sound good...

As far as I know, a big group of people left DI a couple of years ago, to form Razorworks, who produced Apache Havoc and Comanche Hokum. Have a look at the infantry in DI's Hind and F-16 fighting falcon, and then compare with the infantry in Comanche Hokum

I believe you're right, Ozias. There have been several break-offs from DI recently, but they somehow seem to keep going. Standards have slipped though.

I would question Leadhead on his Tornado theory. According to MCV magazine, Rod Swift was in charge of Tornado. Let's hope they don't get some chump in to run things. Judging by the production levels on SH, they would do well to use the opportunity to get some strong management in and release a proper game like Tornado again.

I have to agree about the slipping production standards. DISH was less of a game than F16FF was, just a load of uninspired single missions. It also seems to have a lot of the old vehicles/aircraft etc. from earlier games, many of which look very bland and dated now.

I think I remember reading that after F16FF came out there was a big staff walk out. Apparently the producer and half of the programmers went to work for Psygnosis. I can't help thinking that DISH must have suffered as a result. Now that the MD's gone as well, is there anybody left at DI who knows how to make a good flight sim?

This is where Raz should make an appearance.
Didn't he used to post here a while ago?

I think he was part of the DI technical support team - though I might be wrong
Is he still at DI?????

Sadly, the whole flight sim market looks pretty dead at the moment. DI is a smaller company and if the management really has left, then that probably isn't a good sign! Just look at DID last year.....and how many flight sims have been canned.

Has anyone even heard anything from DI in the last few months? No gold version of the game, so what's coming next? Maybe, with the market so competitive and sales so bad for flight sims, they're moving out of flight sims?
Especially if their experienced programmers have left (the MD, if that is indeed true, and the guys who went to work for Razorworks), perhaps one of the oldest producers of flight sims is to produce flight sims no more?

That would be a sad day, but maybe inevitable.....

Or am I being MUCH too pessimistic guys?

Yeah - Raz was part of the DI Tech Support team - he was the one who helped me fix my USB stick recognition problem.

That was about 7 months ago now.
