Greetings all,

Unfortunately, a sour twist of fate, JF18 and Guiness have conspired to kill my MSFF1. I have (of course) obtained an interim replacent in the form of the Saitek Cyborg 2000 usb gold, at the suggestion of an article I read on this very site. I truly like the stick, but have found myself experiencing accute FFWS (Force Feedback Withdrawl Syndrome). In a futile effort to restore my TIF (tactile immersion factor) to its once mighty level, I purchased the Logitek Wingman strike force 3d. While I loved the button placement and 2 top hats on this stick, it had some serious accuracy issues not to mention the whines of strain and exceptionally high operating temperature emminating from the workings of this soon-to-be-returned joystick.

What I am looking for is a stick with the smoothness of the saitek, the excellent button placement of the Logitek offering, as well as the truly superior FF effects of the microsoft stick. I cannot make myself purchase the FF2 (oh-it calls to me though), as the stick has no "shift" button and thus, exactly half as many buttons as my not so trusty FF1.

Gentlemen, does such a stick exist? Is it time to go HOTAS crazy (and estrange my girlfriend of 2 years)?

After seeing the "hotas picture" thread earlier this month, I am convinced that I have come to the right place for advice.

Thank you in advance.

Guillemot is due out with their Thrustmaster AFTERBURNER force-feedback joystick in March/April. It's USB and comes with a detachable throttle for true HOTAS. Don't know how many programmable buttons.

I'm waiting for this one.

Hinge out

Sinner: I must be missing something. I don't see why you don't get a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro, which I bought a few months ago at Best Buy. It has the shift button that you require and works great for me. If I am missing something regarding your needs, please elaborate.

195th-

It seems that in my area stores(Frys, best buy, comp usa, and circuit city) no longer stock the FF1. All I have been able to locate is the FF2. Why microsoft would remove the shift button on this stick is a true mystery. I did take a look at the "Afterburner" mentioned above. Why is this stick so cheesy looking?

Perhaps someone is aware of a place online that still has them.

thanx for the feed back fellas

s6

Sinner: You can call Microsoft in Seattle and talk to them about their flight stick product line (I have done so in the past), and find out if in fact the stick you want is still available somewhere. You may not be successful, but it may be worth a try. Good luck.

I found that my FF2 and my V5 did not like each other, so I went to the Saitek X36 stick and throttle. I to went through FF withdrawl, but after a week or two with this X36 I don't miss the FF all that much.
If you really think about it how much force do you really feel in a real aircraft through the yoke or stick??? You don't feel the missle leaving the rail or the gear bumbing the ground or even the guns firing.
I guess i say this to justify not using FF anymore but perhaps I will use FF again if a truly stick and throttle version is ever released.

That's a good point, Seawolf.
Hornit (or anyone else who has flown the real life F/A-18), does a pilot of a real life F/A-18 feel on the plane's stick any of the things that are felt on a force feedback stick in Jane's F/A-18? In other words, what are the Jane's F/A-18 force feedback things that are felt in real life and what are the ones that are not felt?

Thanks for the replys fellas.

My problem is solved.

I was able to finally find a msff1 for sale. Its amazing how badly not having a stick threw my gig off. Thanks for the help and I am also curious too see what some qualified people have to say about stick feedback in r/l.
