this may be off topic but i was just wondering, i notice many of you here use V5 for F/A-18 other than GeForce 2. Is Voodoo5 a good buy? I thot GeForce 2 generally outperforms V5? Why are people buying V5 instead of GeForce2?

Thks..

Because the V5 has superior Full Screen Antialiasing over the GeForce 2. I have a GeForce 1 and the graphics are nice no doubt, but can't hang with the V5 screenshots I've seen. Plus I think Voodoo cards are actually faster in F-18, where GeForce cards are faster in other games.

So, if you're going to play this game a lot, get a V5. If not, depends on what games you will be playing, FPS using the Quake 3 engine love GeForce cards.

Both are good cards and perform pretty close to each other in all games. The Voodoo 5500 can do the same resolutions as the NVIDIA card as well.

If you have a lot of treasured older games, especially if they're written for Glide, go with Voodoo. Otherwise, you need to weigh the benefits of a better looking output with FSAA vs. what may become a much faster card (if enough software is written for T&L before the cards obsolete).
Most have recommended the Voodoo for flight sims.

I just got my V5 5500 today. I await the return of my Mobo from Microstar. Finally, I'll actually be able to have stability!

FSAA was good on the GeForce 1 SDR clocked at 155/210(I always clocked it down for intense gaming, say 145/195 just to be safe) sometimes. The only thing I hated, was the instability. First I thought it was my CPU, then I thought it was my RAM, then I thought it was my Power Supply, then my Sound Card, and finally I have given up on the SDR GeForce that overclocked so well for me.

Shoot me an e-mail at whymustask@home.com, in a few days I'll get my main system up and running again, and I'll show you the benefits of the V5 5500

Paul

Ahh, don't you wish it was a real helo sim.

It's a graphical benchmark called 3D Mark 2000. Very good looking graphic scenarios in there. No joystick input or multiplay, though
