Has anyone tried running JF18 under Windows ME? If so, how is the performance with the new OS? Thanks.

No problems so far...

Some say the code is a little cleaner, some say otherwise.

All I know is, my boot times are down to 1/3 as long.

Boot times are down cause they cut out some DOS stuff in the load.

My system seems more stable under WinME. No appreciable framerate impact (but none expected). And yes, nice to get all that antiquated DOS stuff outta there.

Yeah, but is there a decent, inexpensive (preferably free) personal firewall for us broadband users that's compatible with ME? Until there is, I have to stick with 98SE.

I use Zone Labs. Believe URL is just www.zonelabs.com. Or try it without the "s".

I agree with Bill about the stability. Use to run dual boot with 98se and W2k. Big difference. Now duel with Me and W2k, both rock solid. Couple of weeks without a crash with any of my games or programs. I highly recommend it. Not for the small things that were added, but for the stability and the Restore application.

My Linksys home LAN router/switch has built-in firewall protection.

"The Linksys Instant Broadband EtherFast Cable/DSL Router is the perfect option to connect multiple PCs to a high speed Broadband Internet connection or to an Ethernet back-bone. The built-in NAT technology acts as a firewall protecting your internal network. Configurable as a DHCP server, the EtherFast Cable/DSL Router acts as the only externally recognized Internet device on your local area network (LAN)." http://www.linksys.com/

Same here, I was using Zone Alarm untill I installed the Linksys router on my LAN.

The slick thing about the router is that you can switch one machine on & off from behind the firewall to enable games that cant be played through a firewall. The switching is done by adding or deleting the last three digits of the machine's IP# from the firewall list.

Bear, Could you give me some insight please on that feature setup? I presume within the 'Advanced' tab of the router config screen.
As this is getting way off topic how about emailing me at williamhewett@mediaone.net
Thanks!
