I'm running a Voodoo3 3000 card, but when i run the game, i can't seem to get any options to run it in accelerated mode. The detail is turned up all the way, and when I went to select my display driver, the only one it lets me select is the primary one, and this is not giving me any 3d acceleration, the graphics are blocky, and the game runs choppy. If anybody knows what the problem may be I would appreciate the help. Thanks, Brent

ROFL, Welcome to FA18 by Janes.
Honestly, there is probably nothing wrong with your graphics. If it says Primary Display Driver or display driver then your ok. The Voodoo3 is your primary display driver since it is an AGP card. The graphics are not that great to begin with, but Im not quite sure what you mean by blocky? does it look like its running in some type of software mode? I would suggest going to www.3dfx.com and downloading and installing the 1.05.01 beta drivers for the V3. and you need to put your system specs on here so we can help you shut off some settings to make it run better. Search this board, since your new to FA18 I would suggest going as far back in the board as possible to find answers.

Yeah, well i mean the graphics looked sub-par, like they are running in software mode (I just couldn't think of that term at the time), you know before 3d acceleration, none of the textures were smooth. The graphics were more like a slightly better version of ATF or US Navy Fighters. I am running a AMD K6-2 400, with 128MB of ram.

Well to be honest the scenery graphics in FA18 are sub par since it is built on the same engine as F15 which is a few years old. Your system is a bit on the low end as far as FA18 is concerned, but try setting the panel to medium, and turning off everything except point light source. Scenery distance I usually keep at near with water sparkel off and my reason for this is I very rarely get above 10,000ft. Since terrain masking is a big advantage in FA18 it's best to stay low and fast. There are also plenty of enhancements done by Skypat and the gang that really bring out the colors in FA18, unfortunantly most of these files are for TNT/GForce users, us Voodoo users are left out. lol Don't get discouraged, stick with it and I suggest trying multiplayer as this is the sims strong point. Also try setting the resolution to 800x600 or even better 1024 if you can. Nothing looks good at 640x480 especially if you have a 17"+ monitor. Get those beta drivers from 3dfx.com and disable VSync this will give you 2-3 more FPS in some cases. Hope all this helps.

well the scenery isn't the only problem, its everything, the graphics look worse than F-15(I thought F-15's were pretty impressive actually). I've looked around the boards for some help with the problem, I have it figured out that its the fact that the Voodoo card was designed mainly for OpenGL, and FA-18 uses D3D. Trying to find the right Voodoo drivers to help this. I'll nab it eventually i hope

Bissel, The Voodoo3 is not only designed for OpenGL. actually the early voodoo drivers had serious problems with OpenGL. The strong point of the voodoo3 is in fact Glide with D3D comming in second. Trust me, go get the beta 1.05.01 drivers from 3dfx.com and it will probably fix this issue.

ok, now i'm getting upset, i've tried installing the beta drivers. I tried installing those hacked drivers. Everytime I update these drivers I re-installed directX 7.0a (i think this could be a problem, but i'm not sure how to downgrade to 7.0) and the damn thing still looks like its running in software mode. This is really really frustrating.
