Dear Jane,

I am sorry dear, but it has come time for us to part ways. I have found another love.
She is smart, beautiful, and man can she fly!
I have tried and tried to get you to handle my 8G turns, I have tried to keep you from stalling. Alas, I can not worry about such things anymore. And please, lets not even discuss your ridiculas hardware requirements! I mean, I know you gals like a fast CPU, but you won't even do 25 FPS for me. All the "other" ones do. I have been with you from the beginning, and although we had some good times, the bad times outwiegh the the good. My new love has a name, it's Falcon 4.0
Maybe one day if you get yourself in shape, get some friends, and stop wearing that piggishly slow flight model of yours we can work things out. Until then I will be booming and zooming into real world battelfields, going into the vertical (without hearing your annoying stall horn every 5 damn seconds), and dropping bombs without my wingman shooting me in the back.

Good Day.

Dear Jane letter....funny

Well your new love has her fair share of problems. Her weapons and avionics are lacking. You will enjoy those long..long load times in multiplayer then finding out that all the flights are unavalable due to lack of pilots. Whe you do finally get to fly, just try to beam that radar lock..it'll do no good. And please count how many times you get gunned by an airplane that doesnt look like its even pointed at you. But she does have higher framerate and pretty scenery..and that's all most people want anyways.

SPIKE out

Spike - Im not "flaming" or anything - just curious - are you saying that F18 is a "better" sim than F4 (apart from fps) ??

I can understand the defense of Janes.
When you go into someone else's back yard and throw eggs, there will be a backlash.
(...and that is what this sounds like)...however I am inclined to agree with some of the comments made above, although I still fly Janes, I find it difficult to commit to learning it the way it needs to be learning due to some of the items mentioned above. It will stay on my HD as I find myself coming back to it................

...on to Falcon.
....The implication that Falcon is a **pretty**
but shallow Simulation ?? .....must *not* of heard that right. this is not USAF..........!
...All parts are not running perfect (yet?) yeah, it is still not **perfect**
...but look at what it has to offer.
and.....what a future!!!!!!!!!!!
...no real retort hear because this stuff is real old. You've heard this stuff as much
as I have...........the pickins are getting too slim these days to be slamming someone else's Hobby.
.....just my thoughts.

Well, the dear Jane's letter does make a lot of good points. Jane's F/A-18 runs slower on my CPU (PIII-500) than any other sim I have. An becasue of this I don't really play it much. But, I knew that going in. I bought this sim knowing that I would probably have to wait for my next upgrade to enjoy it.

But as jimvictor says, there arent too many choices these days...nor too many coming. Jane's F/A-18 will earn its keep in a few months. Looks like a good sim overall...despite its tendency to be a CPU hog.

Just because you are taking it off because of FPS doesn't mean it is a bad sim. It has been gone ever here for a while and im going to put it back the second I get a new comp.

Maybe Jane should "release" a copy of their source code so that someone can optimize it.
I like this sim, but it does bother me from time to time how slow it is. (PIII 650@728, GeForce 320MB RAM etc...)

muppet, if you want my true honest to god opinion.. F-18 is the better "SIM" but Falcon 4 is the better "SETUP" (Not sure of the word to use)

F-18s avionics and weapons modelling etc by far excedes that of Falcon 4.0, however falcons dynamic campaign, graphics, and fun factor excede that of F-18s, I myself play Falcon more then I do F-18, but I do keep coming back to F-18 once in a while.

Well JFA-18 has been long removed from my HD. The reason? Well I'm not sure really. It got to the point where it wasn't fun anymore, and at that point continuing was purposeless. I guess the things that most annoyed me were (in no particular order)

A) The bland FM. Not that I'm saying it's wrong, just that if it's right then god help the USN..... Severe under-power, and a dreadfully short range. No thanks. Oh, and the same ability to conserve energy as a damp loaf of mouldy bread.

B) The mission became repetative- the inevitable 4:1 ratio of aircraft against me, and they are usually MiG-29 or SU-27/35, thus resulting in an early and extremely cold bath for my entire flight. As I say, this sin't fun.

C) The crippled performance. Ok, it wasn't all that bad on my Athlon 700, but it was still occasionally frustrating.

Things I really liked:

A) Under most circumstances the graphics- awsome! With the exception of the terrain.

B) The systems modelling is second-to-none.

Oh well, maybe when next I upgrade I'll have another look, but not soon I fear.

Cheers, WUlf.

I would still be playing falcon 4 if it wasn't so damn buggy. Everyone says that with its 3rd party support it is a whole new game etc. The only difference is the bugs are different, not fixed. Some are fixed but there is just as many new ones.

HAHA, HAHA HEH HEH!!! Aw Wulfrick,, you just cracked me up good..

what do you mean the 4:1 ratio got to you!!

The ammount of enemy aircraft in F-18 with the exception of user created missions is much more realistic then most sims..

take Falcon 4.0 for example, try a ratio of about 10:1 at times

I agree, I had just recently stopped playing
F4 because of that and also because of after
getting to my target the stupid 'FLAK' would kill me man, does that tick me off!
And it wouldn't make a differance even if I
was at 25-30 angels.....out!

Ms Falcon was a real bitch when I first had her back in '98. She showed promised if you were willing to be patient with the bitch. After about a year of training (patches), she finally started putting out and is a good (p)lay but now is starting to show some wrinkles.

Ms. Jane on the other hand, is one gorgous babe but it takes more to please her. Only real men that have a big manhood (cpu) can make her happy so if you don't "have what it takes", I suggest you stick (with) Ms Falcon until you consider yourself a real man.

My new hoochie mama is EECH. She's great looking, exciting, and seems to have a nice future. In time, as she matures, she'll be even better.

Ms Jane was always too good for me. I tried with her but she wouldn't put up with a regular guy like me. My first love, F4, will always remain dear to my heart, but the winds of change have blown her away.
