There seems to be a curse on games related to the A-10 Warthog. The A-10 add-on for Falcon 3.0 was shelved years back, and last year the highly anticipated Jane's A-10 was killed in the late stages of development as a result of Origin's desire to be seen as a dot-com gaming company. So it was with great pleasure that we discovered that the sequel to SSI's Flanker 2.0 will feature not only the Russian analogue to the A-10, the Su-25 Stormovik, but the Warthog itself as well. Flanker Attack is still early in development, so its feature list is subject to chang, but as it stands you'll be able to fly the Su-25, the Su-39 (navalized version of the Su-25), and the A-10. If you own Flanker 2.0 you'll also be able to fly the Su-27 and Su-33 in the engine. The game engine features enhanced ground detail and wingman commands, moving ground and naval units, and an expanded combat theater covering the Crimea and Caucus areas. There's now radio communications between aircraft, ground units, AWACS, and other players. If you were frustrated by the canned nature of Flanker missions you'll be happy to hear that the new campaign system features dynamic elements and victory conditions. While Flanker Attack is still in the early stages of development, you won't have to wait that long for new planes to fly. After finishing up planned patches for Flanker 2.0, the team will create Flanker 2.5. This is an upgrade that will introduce new scenarios, campaigns, and training missions, and add a flyable MiG-29 Fulcrum to the game. Exact details haven't been announced, but SSI says it plans to make the elements of the upgrade available for purchase by current Flanker 2.0 users, so you won't need to buy a whole new boxed copy of the game.

leafer LOL!Troll is not a little hairy animal - its a bait (as in fishing), although I agree that your definition of the term "troll" is much more fitting in this case. me - Your troll is wasted on me - I love every minute of Flanker 2. Seriously though, there was one screenshot with that CGO article, obviously taken from retail Flanker2. I was just wondering why not show something new. Cheers, Scout [This message has been edited by Scout (edited 03-04-2000).]

WTF do you mean "Your troll is wasted on me"? Don't expect everybody worship F2 blindly like you are. And don't tell me F2 is perfect that when someone posted different opinion about the game, you quickly jump to him with the term "troll". This is newsgroup and everyone is entitle to have his/her own opinion.

ME, I worship Flanker, sue me.By the way, what does WTF stand for? moreover, is it some sort of opinion enhancer for folks running out of arguments? I am sure that you are quite capable of expressing yourself, and making your point, all the while remaining decent. Try it. ------------------ Nick Moyrand

I'm very curious about how this in effect will work. Will there be an upgrade for 2.5, so that my current installation get the new features of the Attack release, or do I need to install Flanker twice over? What about compatibilities between versions, missions and track files? Can I still use the excellent training material already available in the Flanker community? Details I know, but this is what really concerns me. Whether or not I'll buy, is not really a question. I'm in for the long haul --- unless Flanker takes a big turn in its design philosophy. On the marketing side, I really hope that SSI will adopt the professional software model, ie. offer upgrades at discount prices to loyal customers. I'll think that will make a few groaners and moaners more happy. I guess it's is a question of making the loyal customer feel somewhat privileged.
