I currently have an 8meg Voodoo2 as an accelerator. I've been offered a 16meg TNT2 for 40 bucks. How much of a step up is this, if any? (More ram, obviously) Would I really notice a difference?

A 12Mb V2 SLI rig can keep up with a 32Mb TNT2 (non-ultra) in just about everything up to Quake 3. For Q3, the amount of textures involved start to swamp the small amount of on-board memory of the V2, and the PCI bus' slowish transfer rate aggravates the situation a little.

I would think that a 16Mb TNT2 has the potential to outdo a single V2. This will proably depend on CPU speed, etc - what's your system?

I have a p2-450 with 128ram. I am OK with my system for now, but want to be able to play some of the newer sims down the road and not have to watch a slide show. I am not, however, going to spend $250 on a card!

yeah i got a 16mb TNT2 and i'm real happy with it, and i'm sure its better than a voodoo2 8mb, my friend got a 12mb version and my games look better and play faster even tho he got a 400mhz and i got a 366....

but if youre happy with your current system, and u only wanna u/g for games down the track, you might consider saving that money until a sim comes out that u wanna play so you can get a 32mb tnt2 ultra or someting like that a little later on ...

u do have an 2x AGP slot right?

joe
