Yes yes YES!!!!I SWOTL Retrospective...what a great idea!! Loved the article. I've got SWOTL in the basement gathering dust somewhere....sure wish I had an old 486 lying around to fire it up again. Then again, I tried this with Tornado a while back and couldn't reconcile myself with the primitive graphics. Oh well, I guess its true that you can never go home again. Z

Then the double solids return, and he's back to 30. And keeps his left turn signal on the whole time? Hitler was much worse than that guy" -- overheard on plastic.com

Thanks for the memories!I had forgotten just how detailed that rascal was. With the strategic and research times factored in. Definately a good basis for something more modern. Let's hope the folks at LucasArt's / Totally games sees this article while working on their new WW2 simulator. I don't hold out much hope that M$ will be the next iteration of SWOTL, even with the exotic airframes they're including...

I remember SWOTL too but Chuck Yeagers Air Combat and Red Baron by now defunt Dynamix? The only recent WWII PC games that have come close to SWOTL is EAW as a stand-alone sim and SDOE for multiplayer and open-source features. I wonder if there will there ever be a good campaign sim again like RB? Even if it's linear, if it offered features such as squadron movement, custom paint jobs, and recruitment by aces it would be one heck of a sim. Those were the days...

I want to think CFS3 will be the next best thing to SWOTL. I see I'm not the only one who fondly remembers it. This has always been a huge contention. Just somebody, anybody, do a modern SWOTL! It will sell. Perhaps everyone is afraid of being called copycats. If the flavor of SWOTL is in CFS3 as I think, MS doesn't care if they're called copycats or not it seems. There are 34 planes including sub-models in CFS3. The map looks pretty good and there is a semi-startegic feature Tucker Hatfield of MS talked about at E3 where you gain influence after experience and propose missions and moves to other airfields. If you hit an industry supposedly the factory will evacuate in a convoy of vehicles if they get enough warning. The Germans can win their campaign but not the war though. The Go 229 hasn't been seen since SWOTL either. The He 162 is absent along with the Me 163 but certainly there will be 3rd party add-ons or replacements. I wonder how the Curtis XP-55 will fly if the put the proper turbosupercharged engine in? The 2 Dynamix Aces titles did have lots of planes and I loved them but it wasn't SWOTL. The next best was EAW with lots of modded planes but there was too much mucking around with switches. At least CFS3 will seemingly be a great basis to start with. If any seasoned WW2 combat flight sim fan was asked what he wanted in a sim I am certain they would answer as you guys did- SWOTL 2003. It is nice to know IL-2 is getting official add-ons too.
