Jane's Attack Squadron is based in WWII's Western European Theater and will feature fourteen flyable aircraft, including fighter-bombers, such as the American P-38 and the German Fw-190, and some medium and heavy bombers, including the American B-17 and the German Ju-88. With its release imminent, Our Bob Marks interview both the sim's producer and lead designer.

Good read, Groucho.

I anticipate good things from this sim, especially after reading your Questions and
Answers. Yet another World War II sim, but a lot of variety. And the creators are
excited about it? Looks like one that will be gracing my system soon! Thanks!!!

Groucho,

Thanks for the Q&A on this one.

Two Words..........ROAD TRIP.....I'm heading to the Bangor EB Wed.

Having that development editor is a gold mine. As far as I know this is the first flight sim in which the makers of the game are not only allowing the users to tweak the FM, damage model, etc., but are also providing the tools!!! Fantastic!!!!!

Sure puts the closed "only we have the keys" way of thinking behind the curve. I just hope that some sort of "standard" emerges. Wonder how they prevent "supermodeling" for on-line "cheating"?

Okay, if this sim stresses ground support, then where's the Stuka? The Me 163 is well known for its ground-pounding prowess, though -- especially on takeoff and landing. Still, we haven't had a chance to fly a Komet since SWOTL, so this sim might be well worth a look.

Good thing CFran ain't home, though ...

I hope the Spitfire is modelled correctly this time. In WW2 Fighters (which is now unavailable in the UK) the Mk9 Spitfire depicted had a 1250hp Merlin. but the Mk9 used a 1550hp Merlin. Am I the only one who noticed this? Still, its a different developer so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Mane,

Hate to break this to you, but that "Development" tool is just that, for development purposes only. Sorry. We mentioned this before when we first ran a screenshot of that dev tool back in our news on the 1st of February. Spectre asked if it was included, but it is not. Here's Gail's response to the original inquiry by Spectre.

Just to totally change the subject, I am amazed that this title has NO updates on the
developers, or the publisher's website. It may not be geared to on-line play, which great
In my opinion, but the internet is here to stay, and outdated web pages show me a lack
of A> Concern, or B> Enthusiasm. Sorry, I now direct your attentions back to the thread,
Sorry for the interruption...

I agree Specster...

The net is here to stay

oh and bit about the lack of updates too. poor indeed. Aren't company web pages supposed to be their virtual shop window?

The interview says:

T.F. One of the biggest points of JAS is its physics modeler. This will let the gamer customize flight physics and weapons to their liking. It is in itself a very detailed and deep program and we look forward to the online community who will start to tweak the planes to their liking.

Wolfram,

Gail did say...

quote:
As for the physics editor, at this time, it will not be included in the
final product. This may change though.

Maybe that opted for leaving it in. We should all find out SOON!

Wolfram & Spectre,

Yes, there certainly seems to be some contradictory info coming from the JAS folks. Perhaps the screenshot of the editor we asked about is some sort of full-on, in-house-only development tool, or maybe the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

Not much we can do to check this right now as it is the Easter holiday; on the other hand, it should be shipping now so it may be easier to just get the retail version and settle this once and for all that way.

A guy in my squadron went and found JAS, and he says the FM & Damage model tweaker IS
INCLUDED!

Preliminary indications are that this is the only good news.

But I'll be the judge of that when the review is published...
