Five months after our first previews of the pre-beta code, we've gotten our our hands on the latest E3 version of IL-2 Sturmovik. All we can say is that it seems too good to be true…but true it is. From graphics and sound to FM and AI this sim raises the bar to new heights in every respect.

Viking1,

I envy your position,

Not long after the E3 version arrived at my door, the full beta version also arrived.

But am glad you're sharing with us!

What are the spec's on the rig you ran the latest gem on? My rig is a notch or so above
the recommended specs, and I want to relish the glory to it's fullest when available.
Is Nov. 01 still a good, working ETA?
Thanks,

I am running on a 945MHz Thunderbird with 384 RAM. I can run with everything to the max except lighting.

If you have 1.2 or above and GeForce 2 Ultra or GF3, you can max it out.

I spent an hour online this afternoon... it is just so hard to believe what they ahve accomplished.... no lag, even when close on the tail. And in an environment that looks photo real... ?

Thanks for the real deal on the machine running it. That's folk's main concern- getting a sim or game thinking their system will run it and getting an unpleasant surprise.

Great piece Len. I always think it's a good sign when someone can get enthusiastic AND be talented enough to put that enthusiasm into words. It's obvious to me that after so many let-downs (you know the latest suspects) it finally sounds like we have a sim that measures up to the high expectations that the sim-community have for it. At last, the prop sim Holy Grail

One question. you mentioned you got the beta and I presumed (not sure if I correctly presumed) that you were flying it as part of your preview. Does the NDA affect you as a journo, or are you free to write?

Cheers Len

I would have liked to have said a lot more, and even though I didn't receive an NDA I feel bound to honor the general terms. So unless I receive direct permission, I won't be doing any more updates on the beta...
