The Luftwaffe likes it. The Royal Netherlands Air Force likes it. Just about every air force in Europe likes it- the Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon.

Well, maybe some of the countries are richer than what you think It's not that expensive compared to some aircraft..comparing that the F/A-18E is $76M USD, the F-15E is $35M USD, I think that $50 USD is exeptionaly good for the Eurofighter, and the F-22 has almost priced itself out of the market.... I think that the $50M USD is for the full outfit.....and only the RAF is geting that. Germany will get APG-65 in theirs, no DASS, no towed decoys. The RAF version will get the works, DASS, towed decoys, full PIRATE, CAPTOR...but minus a BK-27 cannon.

Prices are astounding for stuff theses days, huh? But everything is, and as corny as this sounds, one day 50 million will sound reasonable just like 7 million for the F-111 does now. I remember as jets came along each higher than the last. An F-104 was 1 million and late F-4s were like 4 million each and the F-111 came along at 7. I bought a new Z-28 in '73 for $4195 with everything on it. Today it about $25-28,000.
An Eldorado Touring Coupe lists for about $50,000 and in '73 it was about $6,000. A '66 Jag XKE was under $6,000 and todays counterpart is around $65,000. Not exactly proportional but....
And yes, I do remember gas at 17.9 per gallon when I was in high school. There was no self service either. Shite is right!

That's why fewer planes HAVE to do the job of more planes today. Sickening.

The RAF is a bit worried it might have to loose the cannon. Don't they ever learn? It's the penny pinchers in Whitehall wanted to shave off about £20m. Thats off the whole budget it didn't even make up for 1%. If they didn't plumb for the cannon they would have lost something they thought was even more important. But there is a powerful lobby to keep it and I don't think they would be stupid enough in the longer run. The first 60 the RAF will get WILL have the cannon fitted so I think they are playing for time. Trying to bring costs down.

Wow,

Dredged this puppy up from May? Good find.
No gun brings back haunting history of the USAF for me. The F-pig-4 was to be an
"All electronic fighter". No need for those pesky, old school cannons. There were some
fighter jocks that bitched loudly about that manuver. The G model finally had one cobbled
in under the nose. Let's hope the RAF learns from our mistake so many years ago...
